Professor Radovan Fuchs, PhD, Minister of Science and Education, attended the meeting of the Council of Ministers for Competitiveness in Brussels.

A general approach was adopted on the legislative package of the future Framework Programme for Research and Innovation – Horizon Europe with the budget of EUR 85 billion.

Considering the success and competitiveness of the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions, the Council reached a deal on an increase of EUR 200 million to its budget. This increase will also allow Croatian applicants to participate in activities that enhance their international visibility, networking and development of research careers. The Ministers also reached a compromise on the topic of international collaboration and third country association to the Programme.

The reached agreement will allow the Council to continue negotiations with the European Parliament to allow for a timely adoption and implementation of the Horizon Europe programme from 01 January 2021 to 31 December 2027.

In the afternoon, the Ministers held an informal debate over lunch on topics of Mission contribution in facing the COVID-19 pandemic along with the development and use of green hydrogen.

Minister Fuchs also expressed his satisfaction with the Croatian position relating to resources for research and development, in particular those from the European Union Solidarity Fund which will be used for restoring the scientific and education infrastructure.
